I have learned that Salvador Dali didn't have much motive behind what he painted. He painted odd, vibrant things in order to attract attention to himself. Here is a section of my analysis.
The man is dead, blood runs down his face. In his right hand he holds what I think is a medical cross, his left hand is stretched in front of him, and it is twice the size of his body. He is sitting on top of an unripe banana, a cloud floats behind him with the picture of a woman's face in it.

I agree that he painted to attract attention. But how is your analysis an analysis?? It sounds like a description.
ReplyDeleteWhy is he dead, but still active? Isn't the medical cross and him being dead a contridiction? Why is the banana ripe and he's sitting on it? Why is his hand so much bigger than him? Why is the woman's face in so much detail and the rest of the painting isn't? I presume that the woman's face is actually a photo, but why would Dali do these things?
Good luck on your analysis. Funnily enough I'm meant to be doing a psychoanalysis on one of Dali's paintings. I'm thinking of choosing this one but not sure. I'll post back here again when I'm done.
